Our Services Include:
Full driver's education course for Vermont teens. Licensed by the Department of Motor Vehicles, this course includes 30 hours of classroom instruction, 6 hours of behind-the-wheel experience, and 6 hours of in-vehicle observation. In addition, we can give you your VT DMV driving exam. Your test is included in the price of the course. The classroom portion takes place at Blue Mountain Union School in Wells River with a few online sessions. $950.
One hour of private driving instruction. For those who require additional in-vehicle instruction. Often used by beginning drivers who may need a review before the licensing exam. Also appropriate for adult learners who are not required to take a full driver's education course but would like additional driving hours supported by a trained instructor. We can help pinpoint areas of concern and practice those specific skills. $100.
VT DMV 3rd-party examiner. We will administer the driving exam using the driver's education vehicle. We can be more flexible with scheduling than the DMV. Take your test in the evening or on a weekend. If you pass, you will immediately receive a 90 temporary driver's license and will need to schedule an appointment with VT DMV to obtain your actual driver's license. $50. (No charge if you take the full driver's education course with us)
Meet the Instructor
Eastern Vermont Driving Academy (EVDA) was founded in 2025 by Neil Emerson. While EVDA is a new endeavor, Neil has been teaching driver's education in the public schools for the past 14 years. A social studies teacher by trade, he added a Drivers Ed. endorsement to help fill the need for traffic safety professionals. Neil grew up in Eastern Vermont (Newbury and Ryegate); he then lived in Chittenden County for a dozen years before moving back to this side of the state in 2004. Neil holds a BA in History from UVM and a Master's of Education from SNHU. He holds licensure to teach Driver's Education from both the Agency of Education and the Department of Motor Vehicles. Neil currently resides in Ryegate with his wife, Amy, who helps immensely with the business side of Eastern Vermont Driving Academy.
